The first item on the agenda was a presentation of an initial draft of the 2021 church budget presented by Jack Vanden Born and Pamela Sheriff of the Administration Committee. That Committee will incorporate Exec’s input and prepare a final draft for presentation at the November 2 Council meeting.

Michelle Rooker led us in an overview and discussion of West End’s Covid-19 policy. Michelle and Pastor Henry recently attended a virtual Town Hall with Dr. Hinshaw and Premier Kenney. Michelle presented a document she had prepared outlining our church’s policies and procedures with respect to activities and groups, building use, and outbreak preparation.

Exec reviewed the agenda for Classis Alberta North Meeting being held ‘virtually’ on October 16 and 17. West End’s delegates to this meeting of Classis are Pastor Henry, Elder John Taekema, and Deacon Mary-Ann Hughes.

We received a proposal from the Church Renewal team seeking Council’s endorsement and blessing with respect to their work moving forward. The proposal sought confirmation that the values identified and summarized by the Church Renewal team are, in fact, West End’s values and ones that Council agrees are key points to church renewal at West End CRC. These values include prayer, equipping, welcoming, enfolding, community engagement and faith formation. The Church Renewal team will reach out to ministry/committee chairs to review their ministry mandates and incorporating the church renewal initiatives and values into their text and plans. The Church Renewal team will continue to meet several times per year. A future team defined by Council will initiate a West End Mission/Vision Statement review that involves Council, staff, the congregation and all ministries/committees.

A Church Visitor Information letter was received from Classis Alberta North ‘Healthy Church Task Force’ with regards to plans on conducting church visits. Council Executive looks forward to this visit being scheduled some time in the future.

Our next congregational meeting is planned for November, date and agenda still to be confirmed.

Full Council is scheduled to meet on Monday November 2.
